Statement
The energy, freedom, and ritualistic process of painting drove me to create abstract worlds. As a child, I was obsessed with the idea of wanting my drawings to emerge as animated entities. This obsession of breathing life into my work had exploded in an array of lines, color, and light to construct new fields in motion as manifestations of my visceral experiences with melodies. I gravitated towards instrumental swing, electronic, and trance music due to the pure sonic experience in absence of the human voice. The etherial world of music is rendered by the tangible paint medium onto the canvas through broad motions of jabbing, slashing, and wedging color into sculpted forms. I felt that there is no need for a perfect rendition of the lines; as long as the movement and energy is present, then that's all that matters. This process enabled my work to swell outside of the traditional paint mediums and expand onto new surfaces and materials such as mediums, sculpture, and murals.
